Lightning Ridge
Hello Jellyfish,
We went to lightning ridge and went fosicking for opals and it is called noodling and it was fun, we found some small opal shavings. Opals are blue and can also be black, you can see rainbow colours through them. When you noodle you get a stick and you just scrap the rocks and squirt the water bottle onto rocks as that cleans them and you can see opals. We went to a hot spar they are called artesian baths and the water was 40 degrees, the water comes from an under ground bore which is heated.
We went to see some carvings in a mine which was 65 feet down under ground, the carvings were really good, the man did these carvings with a butter knife a long time ago, now he uses a pick axe. We also seen what it is like in a real mine looking for opals. Some of the carvings were of animals and people and there also was a where is wally. We went to the carvings by a bus because the road was really bumpy.
This is one of my last posts on our adventure, we are now in Gilgandra meeting up with my uncle, aunty and cousins, we then will be 8 days away from home.
See you in class.

Carnarvon Gorge
Hello Jellyfish,
I went to a gorge, it was called carvarvon gorge. It was a 14km walk, I did it. There was a art gallery where there was ochre paintings which were boomerangs, hands, baskets and goannas. I liked that gorge because I have never seen anything like that before.
The next gorge was called wards gorge, it was very cold and good because it had fresh water running through it and you could fill your drink bottles up. The gorge walls were very sloppy and high.
Next we went to the amphitheatre. it was cold also and when you walked in through the skinny walls it opened up into a big hole with walls that went straight up. Next we went to the moss gardens, it was very green, on the walls it looked like it was raining and water water fall was good also.
The walking track was very rocky and I could handle it. After the walk we went back to the park had a icy pole and put our feet into some very cold water because our feet were sore. The next day we went to the Bloom Bluff Gorge. The was 937 steps to the top and was a really good view when you got to the top. We stayed up there for a little while and had morning tea, but there was a black bird trying to get into our bag. When we came back down, we went and saw a platypus, he was only 40cms long, you have to stand very still and not move to see them.
That night we had a fire and sang songs with another family one of the songs was about a wombat on a surfboard.
Happy holidays to Jellyfish, see you soon

Lake Maraboon/ Emerald
To Jellyfish
We went to Lake
Maraboon and we did some
fossicking and I got 3 bags of
sapphires and it was lots of fun.
I got a turtle mood ring and we are close to Emerald. When you fossick you have to get a
sifter and you put dirt in it and you have to get all the big white rocks out
and then you have to sift it to get all the dirt out. Then you wash it and then you don’t think about it and you
turn the it over. And you pick all
the sapphires out with the plastic tweezers.
I went down a mans
mine and you have to use a lift but its not like the lift at the shops.. From the mine you can go into 3
neighbours. Its cooler than
outside its 20 Degrees. There is grren stuff that you do
not touch otherwise you will get very very sick. The mine tunnels look like a arch and it was so cool. The man mainly looks for sapphires.

Longreach
To Jelly Fish
We went to the Qantas Museum and we got to walk in a real olden day plane, that was cool. It did not have seats. I saw a big jet and the big Qantas plane. I didn't know Qantas planes where that big. I went in a airplane control thing and you flied off then you had to look for a green paddock to land on. I used the control stick to fly. I went good. Longreach is the home of Qantas. Qantas stands for Queensland and Northern Territory Aero Service.
We went to the School of the Air and they use computers and telephones and Skype to do their schoolwork because they are out living on cattle farms. They only get to see their friends and the teachers one week a year. And we donated $20 for two beds for the children so they can sleep at the school so they don't have to drive out in the dark. They did good artwork, one they made an eagle out of rakes.
I went to the Stockmans hall of fame. Their cattle farm workers and one of the persons did a show for us. He rided his horse and cracked his whip and when it touched the floor it cracked. Theres different bells for the cows, if there was a big cow he would have a big bell. When the cows walk around in the morning the stockmen can hear the bell. The stockman is a cattle farm worker. There was old telephones from back in the 1900's. You had to spin the numbers instead of pressing the numbers. My favourite part was the flying doctors , I got to watch an episode. They help people who are out in the cattle farm and can't get to the towns really quickly. They go in the plane to get there really quickly. There is a pilot a nurse and a doctor. The people at the cattle farms sometimes have to drive to a town to get to the flying doctors. We saw there are lots of different types of whips and saddles for carrying the food and some horse are called a pack horse and then you have to ride a horse.

The water there is called the Gulf Carpentaria and it is also known as the crocodile territory . We saw some Barramundi and we got to pat them, they felt slimy but it was fun.
